Easy and Delicious Homemade Ice Cream

Ingredients
 
 

  • 500 ml milk
  • 190 ml sugar mixed with
  • 12,5 ml cornflour
  • 1 egg lightly beaten
  • 500 ml double cream
  • 5 ml vanilla essence
  • 2 ml salt

Instructions
 

  • Heat the milk in a saucepan and add the sugar and cornflour mixture, stirring all the time.
  • Boil, uncovered for 5 minutes, stirring continuously.
  • Remove the saucepan from the stove and cool slightly.
  • Carefully add the egg, whisking all the time with an egg-beater. Stir in the salt.
  • Cooling the mixture completely and stir in the cream and vanilla essence.
  • Place the ice-cream in the freezer and leave for 30 minutes.
  • Mash with a fork to break up the ice crystals and freeze for a further 40 minutes.
  • Beat again with a fork and freeze.

Variations: Instead of the vanilla essence, add any of the following

  • Chocolate: Add 2 squares of melted chocolate to the hot mixture.
  • Coffee: Add 25 ml coffee essence to the warm mixture.
