Ingredients
Cinnamon Roll Dough
- ¾ cup whole milk
- ¼ cup heavy cream
- 2 ¼ tsp instant yeast
- 2 tbsp honey
- ¼ cup butter
- ⅓ cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- ¾ tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 ½ cups flour
Filling
- 6 tbsp butter softened
- ⅔ cup brown sugar
- ⅓ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp cinnamon
- ⅓ cup heavy cream
Cream Cheese Icing
- ½ cup cream cheese softened to room temperature
- 2 tbsp butter softened to room temperature
- 1 cup icing sugar
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Warm the milk, heavy cream, butter, and honey together till lukewarm. This process can be done over the stove or in the microwave.
- Pour the mixture into your mixing bowl.
- Sprinkle the yeast and granulated sugar over the mixture and allow it to sit for 5 minutes.
- Mix in the eggs, vanilla extract, and salt.
- Using your dough hook hand mixer.
- Add in the 4 cups of flour and mix for 5 minutes until the dough is smooth and tacky, but not sticky.
- If the dough is still sticky, add the remaining ½ cup of flour.
- Turn over the dough onto a lightly floured surface and form into a ball.
- Place the dough in an oiled bowl and cover with a damp towel. (You can use spray and cook/cooking spray to coat a glass bowl) Also to let it rise, keep in a warm place for 30 minutes or until it has doubled in size.
- Once your dough has doubled in size, turn over onto a lightly floured surface and roll out into a rectangle.
- Using a knife or rubber spatula, spread the butter over the dough, leaving the border unbuttered.
- Mix the brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cinnamon together.
- Thoroughly sprinkle the mixture over the butter.
- Roll the dough into the shape of a log, pinching the seams together.
- Place the seam side down.
- With a sharp serrated knife cut the dough into 12 equal pieces.
- Line a 13 x 9 baking pan with baking paper and place the cinnamon rolls in the baking pan, leaving space evenly between them.
- Cover the unbaked cinnamon rolls with a damp towel and allow to rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 190ºC (375ºF).
- Before baking the cinnamon rolls, drizzle with ⅓ cup of heavy cream over the rolls.
- Bake them for 15 to 20 minutes, or until cinnamon rolls are lightly golden brown.
- Allow them to cool for 5 minutes before icing them.
- Using a hand mixer, mix the cream cheese and butter together, once combined mix the icing sugar, salt, and vanilla together until smooth.
- Spread the cream cheese icing over the lukewarm cinnamon rolls.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
