This Glühwein recipe yields approximately 1 liter of lovely, spicy gluhwein which is especially satisfying when enjoyed around a fire with friends on cold winter nights. It is particularly enjoyed in the northern hemisphere over the festive season. You may add some fresh cranberries if you so wish. Some serve it with the star aniseed still floating as a garnish. Ingredients
 
 

  • 1 bottle red wine 750 ml
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 1 orange sliced
  • 1 lemon small, sliced
  • 3 star anise
  • 200 ml water
  • 1/4 cup sugar

Instructions
 

  • Add all ingredients together.
  • Simmer for 20 minutes on low heat. Boiling will cook away the alcohol.
  • Strain and serve warm with a slice of lemon or orange.
