Slap pap is a smooth maize meal porridge served with milk for breakfast, usually with a little sugar or even butter.

  • 1 cup maize meal
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 tsp salt


  • Use about a cup of cold water to prepare a paste with the salt and maize meal.
  • Bring rest of the water to a boil and carefully stir in the paste.
  • Boil for 20 minutes. Stir only once or twice towards the end of the cooking time.
  • Serve with butter, sugar and milk to taste.
