Fried fish is always popular, and ideally, it should be crispy and tasty. It is therefore important to use the correct utensils and ingredients. This fish batter recipe is very easy to make and will be done in no time.

Ingredients
 
 

Batter 1

  • 120 grams flour
  • 2 ml baking powder
  • 250 ml water or
  • 125 ml milk mixed with
  • 125 ml water

Batter 2

  • 120 grams flour
  • 2 ml salt
  • 1 ml pepper
  • 2 ml baking powder
  • 1 egg slightly beaten
  • 250 ml milk
  • 5 ml oil

Instructions
 

Batter 1

  • Mix the ingredients to form a thin batter.
  • Dip the fish in the batter.
  • Heat the oil or fat to 180ºC (350ºF) in the frying-pan or deep-frier.
  • Place the fish in the frying-pan or deep-frier. If frying in shallow fat in the frying-pan, turn once after 5 to 10 minutes - depending on the thickness of the fillet - then fry for further 5 minutes.
  • If deep-frying, fry thin fillets for 3 minutes and thick fillets (about 30 mm thick), for 5 minutes.
  • Lift the fish out of the oil or fat and hold suspended for about 1 minute to allow the excess to drip off.
  • Place on a plate lined with absorbent paper.
  • Serve hot with lemon slices or with your favourite sauce.

Batter 2

  • Combine the dry ingredients and stir in the milk.
  • Beat in the oil until a smooth batter is obtained.
  • Dip the fish in the batter.
  • Heat the oil or fat to 180ºC (350ºF) in the frying-pan or deep-frier.
  • Place the fish in the frying-pan or deep-frier. If frying in shallow fat in the frying-pan, turn once after 5 to 10 minutes - depending on the thickness of the fillet - then fry for further 5 minutes.
  • If deep-frying, fry thin fillets for 3 minutes and thick fillets (about 30 mm thick), for 5 minutes.
